When Panic Attacks – What To Do?
When panic attacks hit, nothing seems to be pleasing. It all goes haywire (or so it seems) and you want to get out of the condition as soon as possible. Though they aren’t anything really serious, the immediate thoughts that they generate in one are thoughts of fear, of loneliness and the likes.
To help you, we have compiled a list of 10 easy to follow tips that can help you cope with panic attacks. Without any delay, let’s dive straight into the content -
1. Learn breathing techniques.
2. Practice meditation, starting today.
3. Change your eating habits: do away with alcohol.
4. Talk to someone.
5. Take a shower.
6. Go out for a stroll.
7. Listen to music.
8. Reduce stress from your profession (workplace).
9. Get ample and sound sleep.
10. Consult a doctor.
One way or the other, panic attacks can be treated. For some people, natural methods are more than enough. Others may need regular therapy sessions to control panic attacks. However, if you feel you’re troubled with panic attacks, there is no harm in going to a doctor.
The biggest issue – or should I say “excuse”? – I’ve heard from people experiencing panic attacks is that they don’t have the time to do what needs to be done. That’s not a valid excuse, really. There are 24 hours in a day and taking 15-20 minutes out for yourself should not be tough. If it is, you really need to take a look into what you’re doing. Chances are, you’re doing something that you shouldn’t be doing.
Workplace pressure can also lead to panic attacks at times. This can easily be solved if you organize and prioritize your work. Set a routine for yourself and come what may, stick to the routine. Do not spend more than 10 hours a day at work and if possible, work in stretches of 2 hours each. Being productive means getting more done in less time. This would free up some of your time.
There are other reasons (or causes) for panic attacks too! For example, some people experience panic attacks at certain times: while driving, while in a flight, while on the terrace of a high building, etc. If you are one of those people, there are several therapy (exposure therapy) that you may want to undergo. Consult a professional to know more (about the process and the costs).
I’d like to end this post by mentioning that the single most important thing that matters is your own will to overcome panic attacks. If you believe you can, you can. If you believe you can’t, you can’t. It’s as simple as that.
