If you’ve ever had panic or anxiety attacks, you know just how devastating they can be. There are problems in all of our lives – we all go through stressful times. However, when this stress translates into repetitive periods of nervousness, feeling jittery, etc, it may signal towards panic attacks. In this article, we will find out how to stop panic attacks effectively.
Most people tend to avoid any early signs of panic attacks. This, in my opinion, is a fatal mistake and one that might prove harmful in later stages if the problem gets bigger. If you don’t pay attention towards your own health and wellbeing, no one else will. If you realize that you are indeed having panic attacks, you may consult a doctor and become more knowledeable about your situation. Cutting it down in the early stages is easier.
There are quite a lot of things you could do to drastically reduce any panic attack occurences. Before you apply any of these methods though, you need to get to the roots of the problem. There may be a small thing that is leading to the stress periods and it may be something that one can treat easily. Knowing what is is will certainly help. Even if you can’t treat it, you can change other things around you that would indirectly help in treating it.
How To Stop Panic Attacks?
There are a few things I’d recommend to start off with:
- Relax yourself: Whenever you feel like you’re experiencing panic attacks, try to loosen up and relax yourself. You may want to talk to someone you’re close to, watch the TV, listen to some music, go for a walk, or take a shower. Just do whatever you can to relax yourself.
- Be positive: Any medical condition, even those that don’t really exist, can lead to a person going into his own negative zone. You must avoid this as much as possible. Keep reminding yourself that you’re totally capable of getting out of anything – panic attacks are a very, very small demon to conquer.
- Meditate & Exercise: Exercising and meditation can lead to a healthy life and a calm mental state as well. Start gradually with light physical exercises and very light Yoga. Increase it gradually and, if possible, keep continuing even after panic attacks are gone. This will only help you stay fit.
- Steer clear of caffeine: Caffeine and other such substances such as sugar, etc make you more hyper and don’t help you, in any case. You should, as much as possible, steer clear of caffeine and other substances I’ve mentioned above. Alchohol is also one of them.
- Get enough sleep: Getting enough sleep is another very important element of leading a healthy life. Many people – and I am guilty of this as well – work (slog rather) too hard and don’t get ample amount of sleep. You should, ideally, get at least 6-8 hours of sleep every day. Oversleeping may cause dizziness so that should be avoided, too.
Oftentimes, treating panic attacks is not about the medication. For the most part, your mental state plays a very, very important role in defining how you cope up with panic attacks, or any other medical condition for that matter. If you stay positive and approach these things in a positive manner, nothing; I repeat – absolutely nothing – can stop you from stopping panic attacks.
