When one experiences a panic attack, it looks as if one is going through a heart attack or worse yet, going to die. It becomes critically important to take control of yourself and do things that are required to overcome panic attacks. This is a catch 22 situation. On one hand, you are going through something that is out of your control and on the other hand, you have to somehow control yourself to overcome the situation.

The good news is that there are quite a few things one can do in order to contain the situation. It will take time to overcome the situation completely however, for the short term, you can do a few things I’m about to discuss. Knowledge, especially in these cases, is bliss! Without further adieu, lets dive into what’s important.

The first thing you need to know is the symptoms of panic attacks. There are many but the most common ones include: acute chest pain, stomach upset, shaking, fear of dying and great difficulty in breathing. The duration of panic attacks varies however, in most cases, it is around 10-15 minutes. However, those 10 minutes are absolutely devastating for anyone.

Thanks to the progress in the field of healthcare, there are many treatments available including psychotherapy and anti-depressants. There are natural remedies, too. I’m listing down some of the steps that could aid the whole process effectively.

  • Practice Yoga – Yoga is helpful not only in panic attacks but to keep yourself fit and healthy. There is no harm and it’ll take only about half an hour to complete a session of Yoga. In due time, it’ll help reduce the frequency of panic attacks;
  • Avoid caffeine, alcohol – Products such as caffeine and alcohol only worsen the situation. As much as possible, try to avoid these.
  • Be calm & relaxed – Being calm and relaxed helps you overcome the situation quickly. When you experience panic attacks – Go out, take a shower, talk to someone, etc. Just do anything that makes you calm and relaxed and diverts your attention.

    Great – just the tips I was looking for. I have a question: Do you think I should go for therapy sessions side by side when I’m doing these?
